The English department of our school cooperates with the educational organisation SOL in the UK. SOL is non - profit organisation which provides language and cultural courses in England. SOL draws on the students own observations and experiences while in England, accelerating their learning of the language.
The courses are 7-10 days long and that gives sufficient time for the confidence to speak in English to develop. Each programme is discussed, in advance, with teachers in order to ensure that what the course provides is what is requested. Students take part in the Town Challenge and give presentation at the end of the course.
SOL is located in beautiful North Devon close to the Atlantic Ocean. People there live at a much better pace of life, they are much friendlier and have much more time to give to the visiting students. The programme of the course combines classes and local visits e.g. the Atlantic Ocean coast and beaches, little seaside towns as Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth, timeless village of Clovelly and the legendary castle Tintangel.
Accommodation is with English host families and this is a very valuable part of the course in terms of both experience and learning.
The courses for school groups run all year round and there are also summer courses and very practical courses for Teachers of English. Ten students from our school took part in the summer course in Barnstaple in July 2011. They were there together with students from Croatia and they all came back loaded with new knowledge and unique experience. Mrs. Karla Mikešová was on "The Reflective English Teacher" training course in Barnstaple at the same time, together with other teachers from 13 different countries.
None of us will ever forget friendly atmosphere of North Devon, beautiful seaside with noisy seagulls, picturesque little towns, cream teas and Hocking´s ice-cream!
