Our school is called "Mathias Lerch Gymnasium" abbreviated to GML. This name is derived from the name of a famous Czech mathematician Matyáš Lerch.
It was founded in the year 1961 and in the year 1996 it was moved from the prime building on the street Lerchova 63 into a new building on the street Žižkova 55, which - as you can see on the photos - looks a little like a hospital. It is found nearly three kilometres from the city centre. There are nearly 800 students and 80 teachers, who have to attend the school daily at 800 o'clock. On average students have 6-7 lessons a day with about 10 or 20 minute breaks. One lesson lasts 45 minutes.
The school provides all three types of study - study of 8, 6 and 4 years with lessons of two languages (English, French or German) in each class. The six-year study comprises an intensive study of French language, in higher classes some subjects (chemistry, physics, geography, history, etc.) are taught in French.
Considering that we moved a short time ago into a new building, our school is very progressively equipped. Especially the labs (physical, chemical and biological) and informatics classrooms. Besides the school canteen, where you can get a meal, school also has a snack bar, which is used for snacks. In recent time the school has started building a new large gym.
Students have free access to the school library, a fitness room and to the Net. The school also supports many student's activities such as sport, optional language classes (German, French, Spanish, Russian and Latin), theatre, rhetoric, etc.
